Announcing the British Yarn Selection Box

ORDERS ARE NOW OPEN!

British Yarn Selection Box pre-orders open Friday 15th May

I’m excited to announce a project I have been working on for some time now. The inspiration for the British Yarn Selection Box came from wanting to be able to work with yarn from lots of different breeds of sheep, but not necessarily wanting to purchase full skeins of each. The costs can add up when taking into account the cost of a single skein plus postage. I wanted an affordable way for crafters to be able to try different British wools without feeling like they were committing lots of time and money to a project they may not even like in the end.

I also wanted to make British wool more accessible. While many people can visit a yarn show or shop to see and feel wool before they buy it, and to find new producers to purchase from, many other people cannot. I began this project before the current coronavirus situation and hope to continue it long after we’ve got through it.

I’m hoping that if this first box is a success I can go on to create a series of selection boxes. As well as showcasing different breeds they could compare, for example, how wool differs when spun as worsted spun 4ply verses woollen spun chunky. I want to show crafters the wonderful characteristics of each yarn and how to look past the initial reaction that British wool is rough and itchy.

The first British Yarn Selection Box will contain:

  • Nine skeins of DK undyed single-breed British yarn in a choice of 10g or 20g mini-skeins
  • An information leaflet with facts about each breed
  • Information about each yarn, where it came from and where you can order more

Pre-orders for the Selection Box will open at 7pm BST on Friday 15th May. There are limited numbers available.
