Brownsea Island
I know this isn’t the best picture of a red squirrel, but I wanted to use one I took myself rather than a stock photo.
Brownsea Island is the largest of a collection of islands in Poole Harbour. It is owned by the National Trust, with a large section managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust. It is known as the location where the Scout movement was formed, as well as one of the few places in England where red squirrels survive due to the lack of competition from grey squirrels. There is lots of other wildlife to be seen as although the island is small it has areas of woodland, heathland and a lagoon.
You can read more about Brownsea Island on the National Trust website.
It happened to rain while we were visiting allowing me the opportunity for this photo, which I have to share because I’m so happy with it.
