Featured Project Friday – Malinda Law’s Pullover

Featured Project Friday is back! Every second and fourth Friday of the month I’ll be featuring a project made with Bluebell Yarns. If you’d like to show off something you’ve made, please send me an email, I’d love to hear from you.

Today’s featured project is this wonderful pullover by Malinda Law. She used Falkland Corriedale Advent mini-skeins combined with some undyed yarn.

A knitted sleeveless pullover resting on a bush. It has a striped diamond pattern in shades of green, blue and purple.
A knitted sleeveless pullover laid out on grass. It has a striped diamond pattern in shades of green, blue and purple. A black cat is stood on top of the pullover.

In Malinda’s own words:

“Pattern from Paton and Baldwin’s 189 ‘Three Men’s Pullovers’ sold for 3d, designed for ‘Patons Purple heather Fingering 4-ply’ c1950s or 1960s.; I used the third pattern which was designed as plain stocking stitch and added the all-over diamond fair isle pattern to display some of the Advent Calendar colours.

I’m an experimental knitter and rarely use a pattern in its original form, usually adding colours or stitch patterns to use my stash of wool which has mostly come from Gwyrthwlan Cymru/Wonderwool Wales or Wool@J13. This pullover was the biggest item I’ve made for years and I knitted the body in the round on two circular needles. Quite a bit of it was done while sitting in a beautiful yellow-book garden in Stafford, (with tea and cake, of course!). It was a change from socks for myself and the grandsons, and Shetland Wool Week hats as gifts.  When I’m not knitting, ‘assisted’ by three cats, I write novels about a retired railwayman who knits socks and dabbles in a little detecting in the Borth area of Mid Wales: I hope to have the first one published soon.”
