Sock Yarn and a Newsletter

I’ve finally found it! I’ve finally got my hands on some British (well, mostly, more on that below), non-superwash, no nylon sock yarn!

I say mostly British, because it isn’t 100%. After much thought and consideration, I have decided that this is a good enough compromise for now  until I find something better. The new sock yarn is a blend of 50% British Mohair and roughly 25% British Falkland Islands/25% South American Corriedale. As I said before, it contains no nylon, and isn’t superwash treated. I’ve been looking for a British sock yarn with these characteristics for quite some time. As I’m not in a position yet to create my own I had to make a compromise. I feel this is a fair one, as roughly 75% of the yarn is British and it’s also processed in Yorkshire. I had to weigh up the benefits of this plastic-free base vs. sticking to my 100% British principals, and I decided that the benefits outweighed the negatives.

Having now dyed some of this yarn, I can say that it feels almost silky, with a lovely lustre, and I can’t wait to try it out. I have a couple of friends also giving it a go to see what it looks like knitted up. 6 colourways will be up in the shop on Friday at 7pm (BST) at £16 for solid and semisolid colours and £16.50 for tonal and variegated. I’ll be adding more once I get some feedback.

I’ve had a bit of a discussion on the subject over on Twitter, and it was agreed that as long as I clearly label this yarn, making sure any purchaser is aware that it’s not 100% British, it would be fine. This gives everyone all the information required to make an informed decision on whether the yarn fits their principals or not. What do you think? If you have any opinions on the subject please don’t hesitate to contact me, either on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or by using the contact form here.

Other New Yarn

As well as adding the new sock yarn on Friday, I’ve added some more new colourways that are already in the shop. I had a bit of a stock take and realised that I’d dyed some yarn but not listed it, so lovely yarns such as ‘Summer Moorland’ on BFL Masham 4ply are available now.
