Autumn Yarn Release

The sudden change in the weather to feel much more autumnal is the perfect time to release my new autumn collection of yarn. You may have seen my comments or newsletters about a slight change to how Bluebell Yarns works, and this is the beginning of that change. My autumn range is available on nearly every one of my regular bases in both full 100g skein size as well as 20g mini-skeins (mini-skeins coming on Monday 22nd). To be able… Read More »Autumn Yarn Release

Searching for Laceweight

You may have noticed for a while now that I haven’t had much laceweight yarn available. As I’ve had a few requests for it lately I thought I would explain what’s going on. The laceweight yarn I currently stock is lovely, but it’s a bit woolly and on the heavier end of laceweight. I’m searching for something in the range of 800m per 100g which is fairly smooth and soft with some drape. I used to stock a gorgeous 100%… Read More »Searching for Laceweight

Cheers! Mitts Kits

A new pattern has been released today for members of the KNITSONIK Colour to Knit club. It’s the Cheers! Mitts pattern by Nolwenn Pensivy. I am honoured that Nolwenn chose to use one of my yarns, BFL 4ply in the colourway Wisteria, for one of the samples for her pattern. With her permission I’ve put together three kits that would be perfect to use in her pattern. Each kit contains a 50g skein of variegated yarn plus four 20g skeins… Read More »Cheers! Mitts Kits

Whitefaced Woodland Sheep

Whitefaced Woodland Wool

The Sheep Whitefaced Woodland sheep originated in the Pennines on the borders of Derbyshire and Yorkshire. They are thought to be developed from the Blackfaced Linton mountain sheep with input from Cheviot and Merino. The breed nearly became extinct in the 1970s and while it has made somewhat of a comeback it is still listed by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust as one of the four Priority (most at risk) sheep breeds in Britain (on the 21-22 list). The sheep… Read More »Whitefaced Woodland Wool

Introducing Bluebell Basics

I’ve been working on the idea of Bluebell Basics for some time now, especially after the survey I asked everyone to fill in last month. Now, I’m finally ready to release it! What is Bluebell Basics? Bluebell Basics is a range of affordable hand-dyed yarns. To begin with there are four yarn weights and ten colourways although I hope to expand this over time. I will also be adding mini-skeins to the range soon. I am working on having shade… Read More »Introducing Bluebell Basics

British Yarn Selection Box No3: DK Blends. Pre-orders now open

British Yarn Selection Box No.3: DK Blends Now Available!

I am happy to announce that the third instalment of the British Yarn Selection Box is now available for pre-order! British Yarn Selection box 3 is a little different from the first two boxes. This box is all about blends of yarn and how blending two or more fibres together can create interesting yarns. This has been an interesting project for me. In the previous boxes I wrote about each breed of w00l and its characteristics. For this box I’ve… Read More »British Yarn Selection Box No.3: DK Blends Now Available!

“Bluebell Basics” Yarn Survey Results

If you receive my newsletter or follow me on social media you may have seen my survey on an idea I’ve had called Bluebell Basics. I am creating a new range of yarn, with the aim of making hand-dyed non-superwash British wool affordable and available to more people. If you answered the survey, thank you! Some interesting ideas and thoughts have been raised and I want to share them with you all. 89 people filled in the survey. Question 1… Read More »“Bluebell Basics” Yarn Survey Results

Yarn Update – BFL/Masham Aran

I’m happy to announce that for the latest yarn update, I’ve dyed some BFL/Masham Aran weight. The 4ply version of this 75% Bluefaced Leicester 25% Masham blend has always been fairly popular. The natural grey of the Masham combined with the softness of the BFL makes for a lovely soft yarn with a gorgeous depth of colour. Of course like all my yarn it hasn’t been superwash treated and contains no synthetic fibres. I decided to use semi-solid colours for… Read More »Yarn Update – BFL/Masham Aran

August Update

I can’t quite believe it’s the middle of August already! This year has been so strange, yet seems to have sped by. You may have already seen, but I’m excited to say that from today Bluebell Yarns is now my full time job! I’ve just returned from a week off so I thought now would be a good time to do a round up of everything you can find in the shop at the moment. Sale! As there are now… Read More »August Update

British Yarn Selection Box DK No. 2

After the success of the first British Yarn Selection Box, I’m excited to announce the British Yarn Selection Box DK No. 2. It will be available to order at 7pm BST on Friday 10th July. I put the type of box to a vote on social media and while it was very close, a second DK box won. A box including blends of different wools was the second most popular choice so is the box I will be working on… Read More »British Yarn Selection Box DK No. 2
